Zhug is a concept by chef Douglas Katz that offers Mediterranean Mezze in a casual, high energy urban space at Cedar Fairmount in Cleveland Heights. Zhug is one of Esquire Magazine’s Best Restaurants of 2020. DUDE VETTED NOTE: From the owner – ‘The only items on our menu that contain gluten are bread. So that’s the clay bread (this comes out automatically to tables, but you can just mention the allergy to the server’we have a GF bread option that you can order instead). The other gluten item is the toast points that we serve alongside the shrimp. Those can very easily be left out. All of which is to say that there is very little cross contamination, mostly because nothing that has gluten is an ingredient in any of our dishes. Our fryers are both completely gluten free as well, and there’s only one bread knife that comes into contact with the bread we cut for shrimp (the other bread doesn’t get cut, so no need to worry about surface contamination there).’ Thanks @Kristi for the suggestion!
